Get to know our first violin Ruth Crouch with our fast-paced questions!

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CONCERT YOU REMEMBER ATTENDING?

I heard a lot of music as a child as my mum & auntie were violinists. A performance that really sticks in my mind is Debussy Pelleas & Melisande at Covent Garden.

I went with a school party as part of the Sir Robert Mayer Youth & Music initiative & was totally captivated by the whole experience.

DO YOU HAVE ANY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS?

I’m afraid not - I think Spring is a better time for resolutions!

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO ON CHRISTMAS MORNING?

My usual Pilates/Yoga exercises.

I love trying to understand the drama & emotion of a piece & trying to share my vision of the composer’s creativity with the audience.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS PIECE OF MUSIC?

My most recent favourite is folk singer Siobhan Miller singing The Wexford Carol from her 2019 Christmas album At This Time of Year.

You can listen to the beautiful carol HERE.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FESTIVE DISH TO MAKE, OR JUST TO EAT AND ENJOY?

I find cooking the Christmas dinner quite stressful but love making (& eating!) Bubble & Squeak on Boxing Day.

WHAT DOES CREATIVITY MEAN TO YOU?

I think I’m more recreative than creative- I love trying to understand the drama & emotion of a piece & trying to share my vision of the composer’s creativity with the audience.
