A new recording by the SCO
30 Oct 2026
News Story
We're delighted to announce the release of the latest SCO recording on 20 November!
The new CD marks the Orchestra's return to Mendelssohn and features some of his best-loved music: the overture and incidental music to A Midsummer Night's Dream, along with the Hebrides Overture and Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage. The Orchestra's fourth recording with Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, it is their second of Mendelssohn, following his Symphonies Nos.3 & 5 in 2023.
From Shakespearean fairy realms to the drama of the Scottish seascape, this is music close to Maxim's heart and the Orchestra's, capturing all the warmth of their relationship. They are joined by sopranos Hilary Cronin and Rowan Pierce, along with the ladies of the SCO Chorus.
The Hebrides Overture has been released as a single from the new album - you can hear it on Spotify or your preferred streaming platform.
The CD will be available from the SCO shop from 20 November, and Maxim will be signing copies following our Magic of Mendelssohn concerts on 26 and 27 November, at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh and Glasgow City Halls respectively.
