A pair of jewels from Classical Vienna bookend this concert: Maxim starts off at the piano, directing one of the most dramatic of Mozart’s works, but all is joy and exuberance in the concluding Symphony No 7 by Beethoven. In between, he conducts the Orchestra in a beloved snapshot of Scotland – Caithness, to be more precise: Maxwell Davies’ Orkney Wedding comes complete with drunken guests … and the bagpipes!
