Enter into a new orchestral sound world!

Immerse (previously known as Masterworks) is SCO's flagship full-orchestra project that enables upper secondary school music pupils to experience the excitement of a live orchestra up close in concert, and to hone their listening, performing, and composing skills through video resources.

Immerse is offered free to all schools.

Immerse 2022 featured Sound and Fury by Anna Clyne, and a new suite of short pieces by up-and-coming women composers who took part in the SCO's New Stories mentoring scheme with Anna. Introduced by Rachel Leach, the concert was delivered with live projection of the orchestra and featured a young actor Mhairi Watt performing a Macbeth soliloquy during Sound and Fury.

Repertoire:

GEORGINA MACDONELL FINLAYSON Crashed Foam and Pale Light
GILLIAN WALKER Saat I De Blöd
ELECTRA PERIVOLARIS A Wave Breaking
ANNA CLYNE Sound and Fury

Crashed Foam and Pale Light inspired by the poem Niseaboist by Nalini Paul
Saat I De Blöd inspired by the poem Saat I De Blöd by Roseanne Watt
A Wave Breaking inspired by the poem Sea-Rattle by Janette Ayachi

ONLINE RESOURCES:

Schools who were not able to attend the concerts can watch an existing set of Sound and Fury video resources including a full concert and a series of classroom video resources introduced by Rachel Leach. These include a listening guide, musical concepts explained, and a set of composition tasks including tips for teachers.

The resources support the Curriculum for Excellence and are ideal for pupils studying for National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.
