Mat is a drummer, youth music practitioner and the manager of the SPaRKs programme. He has led his own percussion workshops since the 1990's and regularly delivers programmes for the Youth Music Initiative in Scotland as 'Where's the One?'.

Mat has performed across the UK, Europe and the world with 'Orkestra Del Sol' and regularly plays live on latin percussion and drum kit. Mat has a deep appreciation of Brazilian and Cuban music and culture, studying capoeira, congas, pandeiro, berimbau and cuica. Occasionally, he's found strumming his tenor uke or playing handpan.
