Young Singers' Programme
Nurturing and developing aspiring young singers as part of our SCO Chorus
The SCO Young Singers' Programme is designed to nurture and develop aspiring young singers and is aimed at musicians with a high level of singing/choral experience who wish to further their musicianship and choral technique through singing with a world-class ensemble. Each year we recruit at least one Young Singer aged 18-23 to each section of the SATB Chorus. Places on the programme are for one season, but members can re-audition each year.Young Singers will take part in the SCO Chorus’ exciting programme of orchestral and a cappella concerts, as well as receiving dedicated coaching from the Chorus Director, our Vocal Coach and other specialist tutors. There may also be opportunities to take part in workshops with international soloists visiting the Orchestra, and in occasional special events. In recent years workshops have been led by Roderick Williams, James Gilchrist and Mhairi Lawson.
Those selected for the Programme will receive a bursary per project which is intended to support ongoing vocal development e.g. the cost of singing lessons.
“I have greatly improved my singing technique, control and range, through a combination of vocal lessons, masterclasses, challenging repertoire, and good warm-ups with exercises, etcetera. My musical skills have developed alongside vocal: I am a stronger sight-reader, more expressive singer, and have sung a wide range of challenging repertoire.”
