Our ReConnect workshop programme, created in collaboration with researchers from the University of Edinburgh, has been running since 2013. It aims to enhance the wellbeing and quality of life for people living with dementia, by providing access to music and music-making to reduce anxiety, stress, and agitation while increasing joy and relaxation. The programme is designed to flex to different environments for people at all stages of dementia and is able to provide support to those within specialist dementia units and hospital wards, as well as within care homes and day centres.

We run ReConnect in partnership with NHS Lothian, working in a range of clinical settings, including dementia assessment wards and in hospital based complex clinical care (HBCCC) facilities. We also work with Caring in Craigmillar, which provides care services for older people in the Edinburgh area to offer regular ReConnect sessions as part of the day services offered.

We see a number of very positive benefits for patients, including notable positive changes to mood, reduction in stress and distress, decreased social isolation and reminiscence initiated through the music played and shared.
