Immerse 2026

Secondary Schools Concerts

Immerse is a unique orchestral experience for upper secondary music and art pupils that enables students to experience the excitement of a live orchestra in concert and explore the relationship between music and art.

Together, they will also discuss the phenomenon of synesthesia and how this has shaped their work.

The programme is designed to inspire creativity and enhance understanding of musical and artistic concepts, support music and art provision in secondary schools and widen access to arts. The performances are free to attend, with a limited travel bursary pot to support schools with travel costs.

Our current Immerse programme is built around The Origin of Colour by the SCO’s Associate Composer Jay Capperauld, which was commissioned for the orchestra’s 50th anniversary.

For our 2026 performances, we will be looking to take the concert to schools rather than traditional performance venues. We will also offer composition workshops and visual arts workshops for the host schools, which will be delivered by Jay and Kirsty, ahead of the performances.

Booking information

Immerse concerts are offered free to schools and seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please only book Immerse as part of a school group.

For travel information and bursaries, email jasmine.munns@sco.org.uk or call 0131 557 6800.

If you are a school teacher or music tutor, free tickets for school groups are available for selected concerts, along with open rehearsals throughout the season. For details on availability and how to book these, visit sco.org.uk/schools-go-free or email boxoffice@sco.org.uk.

Immerse has been designed with S4-6 pupils in mind, as the concert explores quite advanced compositional and performance techniques.

It was great to experience a live orchestra performance and having someone explain the process of creating music was extremely interesting

I had a great time at the concert! It was super interactive and just really fun overall. I loved how they used artwork along with the music - it made the whole experience feel more creative
