Renowned for bringing audiences first-class performances, the SCO is a world-class chamber orchestra and a registered charity.  Since 1974, the SCO has been bringing people together to be entertained, stimulated and even challenged by music.

Outside the concert halls, we go to the very heart of local communities, delivering education and outreach projects that make a very real difference to people's lives.

The ability to be able to take on new projects, to develop the strengths of the Orchestra, and to sustain the SCO well into the future, relies on the generosity of its supporters.  The following areas have been identified as crucial parts of the SCO's future.

Touring Scotland and the world

International touring is crucial to the SCO to ensure it retains its international reputation and continues to be one of Scotland's foremost cultural ambassadors.  Touring Scotland in the summer months sees the Orchestra take live concert performances into local communities.

Education and outreach

One of the first European orchestras to offer an education and community programme, the work of SCO Connect is integral to the life of the Orchestra.

Developing excellence

Over the past 40 years, the SCO has succeeded in attracting the very best players, many of whom are soloists in their own right.  We also continue to attract and develop relationships with the world's best conductors and soloists.

New commissions and recordings

The SCO has an international reputation for commissioning new works and making award-winning recordings, with over 100 new pieces of music and over 150 recordings to its name.
