Councillor - Fife Council
William Campbell represents Fife Council on the SCO Board, having been elected as a Labour member for the Dunfermline North ward in May 2012. He is married with two daughters, one a teacher in Edinburgh, and the other a trainee solicitor with Moray Council. Before taking early retirement in 2010, he worked as an Education Manager, having held posts in schools in Clydebank, Glasgow, Islay, Inverness and Bo’ness, initially teaching Music and moving through the ranks to be a Head Teacher.
When he retired, he said that he was looking forward to having “more time for politics and more time for music”. He is currently Assistant Organist in Dunfermline Abbey; the most iconic of his previous organist posts was in the famous Round Church in Bowmore. He also sings with (and has occasionally conducted) the Dunfermline Gilbert and Sullivan Society.
This is William Campbell’s second stint as a member of the board; he represented the then Glasgow District Council in the early 1980s and he is very happy to renew his association with the SCO.
