Familiarity with Tchaikovsky’s 'weighty' music – his symphonies, tone poems, and operas – might have you thinking that chamber music was not the Russian composer’s cup of tea. But Tchaikovsky did apply himself occassionally in his life to write for smaller forces. His last chamber music composition, 'Souvenir de Florence', is a loving look at a country, and specifically at a city, he adored and where he spent some of the happiest times of his life.
Stephanie Gonley is Leader of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. She has a wide-ranging career as concerto soloist, director/soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. She is also leader of the English Chamber Orchestra and was the leader of the Vellinger Quartet for some time. Some of the many other orchestras she has worked with includes the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Oriol Ensemble Berlin, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, and the Norwegian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
