Concert Piece in D minor op 114 (10’)
BEETHOVEN
Coriolan Overture (10’)
VRANICKÝ
Symphony in D Op. 36 (25’)

MAXIM EMELYANYCHEV – Conductor
MAXIMILIANO MARTÍN – Clarinet
WILLIAM STAFFORD – Basset horn

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra returns to Stirling Castle this July and what better opener for this annual summer concert than Schubert’s sunny Fifth Symphony? Written when he was just 19, it dazzles with seemingly effortless tunes and youthful exuberance.

Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece is equally light-hearted, closing with a tour de force, sparklingly bright and pacey finale. After the interval, The Coriolan Overture is one of the most frequently performed and recorded of Beethoven's orchestral works. A classic to not to be missed!

To end, a rare opportunity to hear music from one of the great forgotten classical period composers, Paul Vranický. Hugely popular and successful in his day, his work is easily as delightful and captivating as that of his contemporaries and admirers Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven.
