The alluring perfumes of France pervade this captivating concert from the SCO’s celebrated wind ensemble – from the exotic, sensual, Persian-inspired melodies of Caplet’s Suite through to the warmth and charm of music from Fauré’s Dolly Suite, shot through with touching childlike naivety. The players conclude with Austrian oboist Andreas Tarkmann’s kaleidoscopic arrangement of movements from Mendelssohn’s magical A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

"You'd be hard-put finding better wind ensemble playing. That these are colleagues, who sit next to each other day-in, day-out was evident in every sinuous interchange, every synchronised breath, every well-meshed articulation and intuitively balanced chord. As individuals, they play with the forthrightness of orchestral principals; as a group, they share nuances as instinctive chamber musicians". The Guardian
