All around the world, critics cheered the SCO Wind Soloists’ last album: “Superb in every way..” (Fanfare), “A joy from start to finish” (Europadisc), ”…sparkles with joy and chuckles with good humour” (BBC Radio 3 ‘CD Review’ ).
Join the Wind Soloists to launch their new album of youthful, entertaining and brilliant music by a young man who took Vienna by storm in the 1790s: Beethoven. Music from two more youthful prodigies completes the programme: Poulenc’s punchy party piece is a blast (especially as played by SCO Principals, Maximiliano Martín and Peter Whelan) while Seiber’s folky Sextet adds a darker, Hungarian note.
Albums will be on sale at each concert.
Following the success of performances and recordings of Weber’s Wind Concertos with SCO principals as soloists, and inspired by the legacy of the great Mozartian conductors of the SCO including Sir Charles Mackerras, the SCO Wind Soloists have since 2012 started to explore Harmoniemusik repertoire.
