With the recent growth of the SCO Chorus’ profile and reputation and in the 10th Anniversary year of Gregory Batsleer’s tenure as SCO Chorus Director, we thought it would be timely to give Patrons an insight into what a typical Monday rehearsal evening looks like for one of the UK’s finest amateur choirs.
Following a fascinating introduction from Greg, whose passion and enthusiasm for the SCO Chorus was very evident, Patrons were invited to take their seat in the pews of Broughton St Mary’s to observe the SCO Chorus rehearse a section from Stravinsky’s Mass and from Haydn’s Harmony Mass. Patrons commented that it was fascinating to see the minute detail that Greg demanded from the singers and how they could now appreciate the level of work that goes into preparing performances. They also commented that hearing Greg shed light on how Haydn and Stravinsky treat the same text, and having this rare opportunity to see an early rehearsal would greatly enhance their experience of the concert.
Gregory Batsleer will conduct the Stravinsky Mass and Haydn’s Harmony Mass during the first week of December 2019.
