What was the first concert you remember attending?

Donnie: I remember hearing Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.6 at Aberdeen Music Hall aged about five years old! There is a world of character and emotion in this piece. It was the first time I felt that listening to music can be like being immersed in a movie.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Steve: I had a teacher in primary school called Mr. Stephen who signed my autograph book with “always try hard”. I like that.

What was your January - May Season concert highlight and why?

Donnie: Barber's 'Adagio for Strings' and Copland's 'Appalachian Spring.' What’s not to love about those? Also, Prokofiev's 'Violin Concerto no.1' and Stravinsky's 'Firebird Suite' with Maxim. Both are amazing pieces!

What does creativity mean to you?

Steve: To me, creativity is when you don’t feel like you are doing it, it’s happening through you.

What is your favorite cuisine to make, or just to eat and enjoy?

Steve: I like colourful, spicy food. Maybe a curry or perhaps Thai...

Relive our Summer 2021 Musical Postcard sent from dynamic duo, Donnie Gillan, SCO Cello, and Steve King, SCO Viola, who visited the beautiful harbour at North Berwick.

They chose a pretty rocking backdrop for their postcard! Positioned on the terrace at the wonderful Scottish Seabird Centre with Bass Rock in the background, the world's largest northern gannet colony.
