Pictures at an Exhibition Term 1

9 Dec 2020

News Story

We have just wrapped up Term 1 of the Pictures at an Exhibition online project. Developed in partnership with caithnessmusic.com, this project has enabled hundreds of amateur musicians to continue playing orchestral music despite current restrictions on face-to-face rehearsals, and we are delighted to have welcomed musicians of all ages from Orkney to Australia. Each week, participants have rehearsed through Mussorgsky’s movements alongside insightful videos of our SCO string quintet, led by Gordon Bragg. Susie Dingle and Katrina Gordon from caithnessmusic.com have provided fun and supportive videos for learners and beginners, and Susie has also set exciting challenges each week through her ‘conductor chat’.

The responses have been wonderful! We have thoroughly enjoyed receiving your selfies, drawings, videos and compositions. Our Gallery is full to the brim and we absolutely love it, why not take a look? As well as our fantastic Gallery, all of our resources are still available. So, if you need go back over the tricky parts again or if you haven’t joined in yet, head on over to the Pictures at an Exhibition page to get stuck in!

Even better news…Term 2 is set to begin on Wednesday 13th January 2021! During this second term we will be releasing weekly videos of Susie Dingle conducting a larger group of SCO musicians and we invite you all to join in with our ensemble from home. To sign-up for regular updates, click here. We cannot wait to see you then!
