Introducing our 2026/27 Season!

23 Apr 2026

News Story

We’re delighted to announce our 2026/27 Season today, bringing together artistic excellence, national and international ambition, all combined with a deep social purpose. Our programme spans core orchestral repertoire, bold contemporary music and meaningful community engagement. The Season is united by a love for music and a belief in the power of music to inspire, connect and transform lives.

Across the Season, audiences can expect music that is thoughtful, exploratory and inclusive – from internationally recognised masterpieces to brand‑new works, from large‑scale choral performances to intimate musical encounters for the very youngest listeners.

Whether in concert halls, schools, hospitals, care homes or community venues, this is a programme for everyone, at every age and every stage.

Beethoven 200

2027 marks the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death, an event we observe with a major strand running through the 2026/27 Season. Across a series of concerts, the SCO explores Beethoven’s music with fresh perspectives, alongside works that respond to his legacy and continue to shape the musical world today.

New Dimensions

Looking forward as well as back, our contemporary music strand showcases the SCO’s commitment to new works and living composers, presenting bold contemporary creations and new voices alongside the core orchestral repertoire. These concerts reflect the Orchestra’s belief that today’s music can speak just as powerfully and directly as the classics.

SCO Chorus

Choral music also plays a prominent role in the year ahead, with a series of concerts featuring the acclaimed SCO Chorus in performances of scale, depth and emotional impact.

Young audiences

The 2026/27 Season continues the SCO’s longstanding commitment to introducing young people and families to orchestral music. Family concerts include the ever-popular Great Grumpy Gaboon, a joyful and accessible introduction for younger audiences, alongside Big Ears, Little Ears, an immersive series designed especially for babies, toddlers and their grown-ups.
