Crocodiamond Family Workshops
Outside of the concert hall, our musicians are busy throughout the year engaging with families and bringing music to communities all over Scotland. Our annual Family Concert, proudly sponsored by Turcan Connell, is always a very stimulating event which gives children and adults the opportunity to connect with us in local community venues as well as experience a full orchestra performance in a concert hall. At this year’s Family Concert, featuring Jonathan Dove’s The Crocodiamond, there will be a host of pre-concert activities for families to enjoy, including illustration workshops led by renowned children’s illustrator and author Debi Gliori, a chance to try out instruments and the opportunity to meet SCO musicians. Come along early on the day and join in the fun!
Debi, together with our musicians and workshop leader Caroline McCluskey, has recently been working with pupils from Sandaig Primary School in Glasgow. Inspired by the music and story of The Crocodiamond, the pupils created imaginative illustrations which will accompany the music during the Family Concert performances. This is an new collaboration with the Edinburgh International Book Festival; a first for the SCO. In January and February we are holding family workshops based on The Crocodiamond in a variety of venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow, including Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children, North Edinburgh Arts Centre, Govanhill Baths and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
