Orchestra in Association with University of Edinburgh
Building upon a wealth of existing collaborations, we have pledged to work together with the University of Edinburgh on new public engagement activities and to pursue new joint academic initiatives. As a result, we are delighted to have been appointed Orchestra in Association with the University of Edinburgh.
One such initiative is our close collaboration with colleagues from the Institute for Music in Human and Social Development (IMHSD) to deliver and evaluate SCO ReConnect – a programme of interactive, creative music workshops for people living with dementia. The project aims to use live music performed by world class musicians to improve the sense of well-being and quality of life of patients with a diagnosis of dementia, to help improve the sense of well-being amongst the care community, and to encourage the general use of music by staff within the ward.
This partnership aims to contribute towards emerging research into the role that music can play in the lives of people with dementia. The next series of SCO ReConnect workshops take place in July and August 2015 at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
