Incredible Distance

"Incredible how distance evaporates when music and humanity interact" - Incredible Distance participant 2019

Incredible Distance is the SCO’s creative project for adults in Wester Hailes, produced as part of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s Wester Hailes Residency and delivered in partnership with Edinburgh College and WHALE Arts. The project is open to all adults, irrespective of musical experience, and we work with local GPs and community link workers to welcome and support participants who are referred via social prescribing.

In 2018, participants created an original audio-visual installation which explores the sonic and visual identity of the Edinburgh suburb, capturing snapshots of daily life through the collection of found sound, imagery, film and original musical composition. The work was installed at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Fruitmarket Gallery and WHALE Arts, Edinburgh.
