Open Rehearsal with Reinhard Goebel
Both the exuberant conductor Reinhard Goebel and our, now former, Principal Horn Alec Frank-Gemmill entertained and informed the group by giving insights into the specific technique used to play the Natural Horn which Alec had specifically borrowed for his performance of Mozart’s much-loved Horn Concerto.
Having performed the night before in Edinburgh, the rehearsal in Glasgow is usually an opportunity to re-visit the conductor’s desired interpretation of the pieces and also to check the balance in a new space.
As Patrons watched the Players rehearsing excerpts of the programme, Reinhard could be seen pacing about different parts of the hall checking that the sound would be as close to perfect as possible. It was certainly a special rehearsal and concert, and a wonderful opportunity to bid farewell to Alec.
Following the rehearsal, we welcomed Patrons into the Recital Room to enjoy socialising together over a light bite and some refreshments before the performance.
You can listen to Reinhard's interview with Kate Molleson On BBC Radio 3 here.
