At the SCO we aim to enable people of all ages and musical abilities to make music, learn and experience the joy of the orchestra. We offer a wide range of opportunities for young people to get involved with the orchestra, whatever their musical experience.

Rehearsal Visits - From Score to Stage

An opportunity for students to experience part of the artistic journey as a conductor and musicians take a piece of repertoire from the page to the concert platform. See the Orchestra at work and gain a real insight into the life of a professional musician.

Places are offered at no cost, however tickets are limited and must be booked in advance.

Orchestra in Association with The University of Edinburgh

Developed in collaboration with The University of Edinburgh, our InterConnect project provides an exciting opportunity for emerging composers to write and develop pieces for a professional performance. Final year BMus Composition students and SCO musicians work together to explore instrumental techniques, refine ideas, and to workshop and rehearse compositions written especially for the ensemble. The resulting pieces are showcased at a concert as part of the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) Degree Show.

It matters immensely as it allows the voice of the student to be heard...having the opportunity to hear it live at professional level was something to look forward to.
