In this utterly charming performance our Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev - recognised for his talents as both conductor and musician - directs from the harpsichord.
After Hasse’s expressive Adagio & Fugue in G minor, Maxim is soloist in Haydn’s Harpsichord Concerto in D major, which became the composer’s most popular concerto with its delightful melodies and brilliant energy.
Two romantic works follow, and our Principal Cello Philip Higham returns as soloist for Bruch’s Kol Nidrei, which takes inspiration from Hebrew melodies and provides a haunting finale to the programme.
Filmed at The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, this concert will be broadcast via SCO’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
