The Bridge, Dumfries
Maxim Emelyanychev conductor
Philip Higham cello*
Feel the heat and energy as the SCO ignites the stage under the dynamic direction of Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev.
The evening opens in dramatic style with Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, a sweeping and atmospheric seascape inspired by the wild Scottish coastline. From its swirling waves to its haunting lyricism, this iconic overture casts an immediate spell, drawing you into a world of mystery, movement and elemental power.
Next, SCO Principal Cello Philip Higham brings glowing warmth and lyrical beauty to Schumann’s Cello Concerto, an intimate work that shimmers with tenderness and quiet passion.
After the interval, the flames roar higher with Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 – a symphony of unstoppable rhythm and vitality. Hailed by Wagner as "the apotheosis of the dance", its driving energy and jubilant spirit make it one of the most exhilarating works ever written.
Don’t miss this unforgettable evening that celebrates the power of music to move and inspire.
