Concerto in D minor for Violin, Piano and Strings (20')
Child genius, musical pioneer, explorer of the emotions.
Felix Mendelssohn is so much more than simply the creator of bewitching melodies, as world-renowned keyboard player and director Kristian Bezuidenhout sets out to demonstrate in this concert.
Mendelssohn wrote his high-spirited String Symphony, astonishingly, at the age of just twelve, and its boisterous invention celebrates both Beethoven and Bach. His sparkling Concerto for Violin, Piano and Strings, in which Bezuidenhout is joined by SCO Leader Stephanie Gonley, came a mere two years later.
Filmed at the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, this concert will be broadcast via SCO’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
