- Symphony No 36, ‘Linz’
The SCO’s former Principal Bassoon, Peter Whelan, is in high demand as one of the UK’s most respected directors of early music, praised for his exuberant, energetic performances.
He begins the concert with the Overture from Joseph Boulogne’s opera L’Amant Anonyme(The Anonymous Lover). From the six operas written by the composer - whose music has long been overlooked - L’Amant Anonyme is the only surviving work and opens the evening’s programme with sonic splendour.
We move on to another crowd-pleasing Overture, this time from Handel and his pastoral opera, Acis and Galatea, arranged by Mozart.
To conclude, three works by Mozart concluding with his highly inventive Symphony No 36 ‘Linz’, which he is believed to have composed in only 4 days.
Filmed at Perth Concert Hall, this concert will be broadcast via SCO’s YouTube and Facebook channels.
