Beethoven's Symphony No.7
with Maxim at The Concertgebouw, Amsterdam
The Concertgebouw, Amsterdam
The SCO returns to the prestigious Concertgebouw in May, the Orchestra's first visit in over twenty years. Led by Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, this landmark concert showcases the Orchestra at its finest on a stage renowned worldwide for musical excellence.
The programme opens with Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, inspired by the composer’s journey to Scotland and the dramatic seascapes of Fingal’s Cave. Evoking rolling waves, shifting light and elemental power, it is a vivid musical portrait that feels especially resonant on such an international stage.
At the heart of the concert is Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.25 in C major - here Maxim Emelyanychev directs from the keyboard, combining conductor and soloist roles, very much in the spirit of Mozart’s own time.
The evening culminates in Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony - one of the most exhilarating works in the symphonic repertoire. From its glowing introduction to its electrifying finale, the symphony surges with rhythmic energy and irrepressible vitality.
This concert is part of Maxim Emelyanychev's Spotlight series.
