A mentoring scheme for emerging women composers with Scottish Chamber Orchestra Associate Composer Anna Clyne.

Anna Clyne New Stories

New Stories will support three women composers to bridge the gap between study and the profession by providing them with mentorship from the SCO's inspirational Associate Composer, Anna Clyne.

In the first year of the scheme, three composers will each work with Anna to write and workshop a piece for mixed ensemble. These new works will be inspired by the art of storytelling in relation to musical composition in collaboration with writer and storyteller Janis Mackay. In the second year, one composer will go forward to write a new work for the SCO for performance in the summer of 2022.

The Composers

We're excited to announce that the three composers selected for this scheme are:

Georgina MacDonell Finlayson

Georgina MacDonnell Finlayson

Georgina MacDonell Finlayson is a versatile Scottish composer, violinist, fiddle player and community arts practitioner who studied at Edinburgh University. Growing up in a remote Angus glen, her creative work is often influenced by her experiences of landscape, nature, people, place and story; incorporating traditional music, spoken word and recorded sound; exploring atmosphere, soundscape and environmentalism.

Electra Perivolaris

Electra Perivolaris

Electra Perivolaris is from the west coast of Scotland and studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland before moving on to her masters studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Her music seeks to reflect physical and emotional landscapes, drawing on her interest in Scottish, British and international folk music and the impact of music on communities, as well as drawing inspiration from ecology, the connections we form with the natural world, and the impact that humans have on the environment.

Gillian Walker

Gillian Walker

Gillian Walker is a composer studying with David Fennessy at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
