SCO announces appointment of new Chorusmaster

The SCO has appointed Gregory Batsleer as its new Chorusmaster, following his work with the SCO Chorus during November's Homecoming concerts.

Arts Philanthropy award for SCO Chairman Donald MacDonald and wife Louise

On 24 November 2009, Donald and Louise MacDonald received one of five Medals for Arts Philanthropy presented by HRH The Prince of Wales at Clarence House, London.  Created by Arts and Business, this medal celebrates individuals who support the arts and recognises the contribution of the most inspiring cultural philanthropists in the UK.

Robin Ticciati makes SCO Principal Conductor debut

New Principal Conductor, Robin Ticciati, makes his season debut in Glasgow on Friday 11 December, conducting Brahms' Symphony No 2, and is joined by mezzo soprano Magdalena Kožená for songs by Mahler.

November highlights

First appearance of season of Principal Guest Conductor Olari Elts, and a tribute to some of Scotland's greatest composers in a Homecoming-themed concert featuring music by James MacMillan, Edward Harper and Kenneth Leighton.

SCO pays tribute to Scotland’s composers in ‘Homecoming’ concert

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra will perform the world premiere performance of the complete version of Edward Harper’s Second Symphony in a ‘Homecoming’-themed programme at Glasgow City Halls and Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November. As well as paying tribute to the music of Harper, who died in April this year, the Orchestra celebrates the music of Kenneth Leighton in the 80thth birthday of James MacMillan with his tour de force Tryst.

The Lost Book nominated for a BAFTA Scotland Award 2009

Online animated whodunit, The Lost Book, with graphics by Binary Fable and accompanying soundtrack commissioned and performed by musicians of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, has been nominated in the Interactive category for the BAFTA Scotland Awards 2009.
