Beethoven on Track
Scottish Chamber Orchestra gets its message to train commuters

This autumn, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, its Principal Conductor Joseph Swensen, and legendary pianist Stephen Kovacevich will perform all five of Beethoven's Piano Concertos in a series of concerts in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. The concerts follow the huge success of the Orchestra's cycle of Beethoven symphonies with Swensen which celebrated its 25th anniversary. To promote the concerts, the SCO has commissioned an original illustration of Beethoven, based on one of the most famous images of the composer.

The illustration is cleverly built up of musical imagery such as piano keyboards, musical notes and batons.

The illustration features in the Orchestra's advertising campaign for the Piano Concertos Cycle which, for the first time, will include flyers placed in the back of train seats on rush-hour Edinburgh to Glasgow shuttle services. The campaign aims to capture the imagination of commuters, day-trippers and shoppers travelling on the Edinburgh to Glasgow line. The adverts and flyers will also be inserted into newspapers, and posters and leaflets will be distributed throughout Scotland.

It is hoped that the visually striking image will help attract a broad audience to the concerts at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and the Music Hall in Aberdeen.
