Experience the SCO - Recordings

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra has a discography of over 140 recordings and continues to be showered with praise for its recordings. The SCO has a partnership with Glasgow-based Linn Records, with whom it has recorded 12 CDs.

2009 has been a great year for the Orchestra on disc; in April, Mozart's Symphonies 38-41 scooped both Disc of the Year and the Orchestral award at the BBC Music Magazine Awards, having already won the Symphonic Works Award at the Midem Classical Awards 2009 in January. And the same disc was awarded a coveted Classical BRIT in May. The Orchestra returned to the recording studio this summer with Sir Charles Mackerras to record a second volume of Mozart Symphonies, featuring Symphonies 29, 31, 32, 35 and 36, which is due for release in 2010.

Mozart Symphonies CD        Beethoven Piano Concertos 3, 4 and 5

There have been three new releases this year, including Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with Louis Langrée, violinist Renaud Capucon and violist Antoine Tamestit (Virgin Classics); Haflidi Hallgrímsson's Cello Concerto, performed by Truls Mørk (Onedine); and a recording of Beethoven's Piano Concertos 3, 4 and 5 with Artur Pizarro and conductor Sir Charles Mackerras (Linn).

In earlier recordings, conductor Emeritus Joseph Swensen conducts and takes the solo in Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No 2 and the 'Classical' Symphony, as well as performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and conducting the 'Scottish' Symphony and Hebrides Overture. Sir Charles Mackerras conducts superb music by Kodály and Bartók while SCO Principals take the solos in Mozart's Wind Concertos under conductor Alexander Janiczek.

And don't forget about the must-have complete box set of Beethoven's symphonies, conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras. This box set was recorded live at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2006. Featuring the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on Symphonies 1-8, and the bigger forces of the Philharmonia Orchestra on Symphony No 9, the CD has received wonderful reviews and remains popular with both those seeking to relive the live performances and those who missed the chance.
