Lise Aferiat studied violin and harp in Avignon, Marseille and Paris before settling down in her beloved Provence.
In 1990 she took a sabbatical of two years from her jobs to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, at the end of which she travelled to Scotland to experience first hand the haunts and tales she read about during her childhood. This is when she fell in love with Edinburgh and was fortunate enough to become a member of the SCO.
Scotland has proved to be the perfect base for Lise to pursue all her diverse musical interests. She was a member of Sexteto Canyengue, one of Europe’s leading tango bands and has worked alongside artists as diverse as Karen Matheson, Donald Shaw, James Grant, Dougie McLean, Rod Stewart, 10cc, Smokey Robinson and many others.
Lise is a founder member of the SCO LAB which experiments with different aspects of world music. She also worked on a successful project combining the musical influence of India with western classical form. As well as being an active member of the SCO Education department she also teaches at the City of Edinburgh Music School.
