
Dutch cellist Eric de Wit studied with Dmitri Ferschtman in Amsterdam and with Richard Lester at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, where he earned his Master’s Degree with distinction. He complemented his studies by participating in masterclasses with Steven Isserlis and Ralph Kirshbaum (at IMS Prussia Cove), Anner Bylsma, Colin Carr, Frans Helmerson, Melissa Phelps and Heinrich Schiff.
A keen chamber musician, Eric is a member of the Cristofori Piano Quartet Amsterdam as well as a frequent guest with several other groups. He has enjoyed successful collaborations with celebrated musicians such as Alfredo Bernardini, Muriel Cantoreggi, Dejan Lazić and Gordan Nikolić, and has performed in many prestigious venues including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
Eric has often been invited to take part in international chamber music festivals, such as the Kamermuziekfestival Den Haag and the Grachtenfestival (Netherlands), Festivo (Germany), the Florestan Festival and the Wye Valley Festival (UK), and Alchimie Sonore (Italy).
Eric joined the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in December 2009. Additionally, he works on a regular basis with some of the foremost ensembles in the Netherlands, including Amsterdam Sinfonietta, ASKO׀Schönberg, the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, the Radio Kamer Filharmonie and the Nederlands Kamerorkest. He has frequently been invited as a guest principal with the European Union Chamber Orchestra.
Eric performs on a cello by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume (Paris, circa 1850), on loan from the Dutch National Musical Instrument Fund.
