
David Chadwick studied with Jacqueline Ross at the Birmingham Conservatoire and with Vladimir Malinin the Hochschule für Musik, Weimar, before winning a prestigious Weingarten scholarship to study at the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, under Péter Komlós of the Bartók Quartet. He now performs with fellow scholar, pianist Michael Higgins, as the Weingarten Duo.
He has given performances of many concertos, including twentieth-century masterpieces by Stravinsky, Berg and Shostakovich, and has been supported by the ‘Young Cygnets’ Concert Artists Trust, the Loan Fund for Musical Instruments and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. In 2006 David recorded John Joubert’s Piano Trio and Landscapes for the Somm label, as part of the composer’s 80th birthday celebrations, a disc that received universal praise.
David has played with many of the UK’s symphony and chamber orchestras, including the London Mozart Players, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Ensemble and Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. He has also toured around Europe, Australia and the Far East with the Academy of St. Martin the Fields under directors such as Sir Neville Marriner, Joshua Bell and Murray Perahia. Recently, David was invited to perform with the True North Orchestra in the Celtic Connections festival, a new ensemble bringing together musicians from classical, folk and jazz traditions. David lives in Glasgow after joining the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in 2007, with whom he has given performances at the BBC Proms, Edinburgh Festival, Prague Autumn Festival and Orkney’s St. Magnus Festival as well as tours of Holland and China.
