Playing with Fire...Part 2

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra has been celebrating the end of the Edinburgh Festival Season for many years with a spectacular display of fireworks choregraphed to the SCO's live performance with Edinburgh Castle providing a majestic backdrop.  The year, the Virgin Money Fireworks Concert takes place on this Sunday (4 September).

Georgian Mandolin Workshop

This August SCO Connect helped to make possible a unique opportunity for amateur mandolinists to experience playing 18th century music in Georgian surroundings.

Sixteen participants of all ages took part in the Georgian Mandolin Workshop devised and led by English mandolinist Frances Taylor and accompanied by harpsichordist Jan Waterfield and cellist Su-a Lee from the SCO.

SCO gives world premiere at 2011 EIF

After opening the 2011 Edinburgh International Festival last week (read reviews), the Orchestra is back at the Festival this Sunday (21 August) with Principal Conductor Robin Ticciati. He is joined by superstar mezzo Magdalena Kožená, the great British baritone Simon Keenlyside and the National Youth Choir of Scotland for Duruflé's haunting Requiem.

When the final note of the Season’s Closing Concert fades away in mid-May, things do change a bit, but for many of us here at HQ it’s business as usual. We thought you might like to hear what we’re up to…

SCO opens the 2011 Edinburgh International Festival

The SCO is delighted to open this year's Edinburgh International Festival at the Usher Hall tomorrow night (Friday 12 August).

We're joined by Sir Roger Norrington, a fantastic line-up of world-class singers and the EIF Chorus for Schumann's take on Persian mythology, Das Paradies und die Peri.

Only a handful of tickets remain, so visit the EIF website to make sure you don't miss out.
