SCO Connect Director Lucy Lowe continues her St Magnus adventures and blogs about the Wind Power concert
Tonight was the culmination of months of hard work for teachers and pupils involved who played as part of a wind orchestra for the St Magnus Festival Wind Power concert. They were joined by a host of professional musicians including the complete wind, brass and percussion sections of the SCO.

It was also an unusual evening because four of the composers were in the audience: Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Simon Wills, John Maxwell Geddes and Gary Carpenter all made the journey (some shorter than others!) to the Pickaquoy Centre to hear their music performed.
Here are the thoughts of composers Gary Carpenter and Simon Wills and conductor Ben Gernon.
Tomorrow SCO musicians perform more new music, this time the composers are students at Kirkwall Grammar School. They worked with St Magnus Festival Artistic Director Alasdair Nicholson and an SCO trio in their Easter holidays to learn about composition and write music for films, which have been created especially for this event by the Orkney Movie Group.
Before then I’m off to the Festival club for my first (and most of the Orchestra’s last) night in Kirkwall. Wish me luck...what did David say – sleep is for wimps?!
