Big Ears, Little Ears is a series of concerts for parents and young babies (aged 12 months and under), providing mums, dads and carers with the chance to share the experience of high quality live music with their infants in an informal atmosphere.
It's a tut-free, baby-friendly zone, so no-one need worry about gurgling, laughing, crying or screaming. Adult and baby can relax, and share the enjoyment and pleasure of a fabulous live music experience.

Come and join an amazing string quartet of SCO musicians for our first ever Falkirk 'mini' Big Ears, Little Ears!
This short (c. 45 mins), informal concert of classical music has been specially created for you and your baby. We aim to provide an affordable and accessible shared experience for parents and babies, where they can enjoy a live performance by four musicians from an internationaly renowned orchestra.
The programme of music will include well-known classics by Dvorak and Haydn as well as fun arrangements of other tunes.
This will be a proper grown-up treat, a stunning professional performance of inspirational string quartet music; but one at which your baby – complete with the usual baby crying, burps and gurgles – will be welcomed just as warmly.

In November 2012, a fantastic SCO string quartet headed for Perth to pilot the first 'mini' version of the project. Playing to a capacity audience in the Norrie Miller Studio at Perth Concert Hall, the SCO musicians wowed their very young audience (and accompanying adults!) with fabulous performances of Dvorak, Haydn and more (anyone for a fusion of Mozart's 'Marriage of Figaro' Overture with 'If You Knew Susie', anyone?!). Many of the tiniest audience members were thrilled to meet the players after the event, too.
"Thank you to the wonderful SCO for their 'mini' Big Ears, Little Ears concert. Elizabeth LOVED it, as did her Mummy. Approachable, non-stuffy classical music at its best! More please :-)"
SIJIE CHEN - Violin
RACHEL SMITH - Violin
BRIAN SCHIELE - viola
ERIC DE WIT - cello
The original full orchestra Big Ears, Little Ears was a short (approx. 45 minutes), informal concert of popular classics specially created for adult and baby, taking place across central Scotland in September 2011. The programme of music – performed live by the Orchestra – included well-known classics by Mendelssohn, Prokofiev and Beethoven as well as traditional Scottish folksongs and lullabies performed by popular Scottish mezzo soprano Karen Cargill.
Conductor Howard Moody said “It is very important to me and to everyone involved in Big Ears, Little Ears that the next generation enjoys the wonders of live orchestral music as much as we do. No better time to start that process, so come along and relax into a real shared concert. Music is for everyone! At last a professional orchestra isn't afraid to share their music making with possibly the most active listeners. Enjoy!"

More please. I t was absolutely brilliant to see the babies faces when the music started up
I enjoyed bringing my two little ones to your Edinburgh concert last year, but as I think I said in feedback then I think you are aiming this at far too narrow - and in fact too young - an age group. The impact you are likely to have on 0-12mth olds is minimal in terms of musical passion/inspiration for the future; but the impact you could have on 2-5 yrs olds is potentially huge, if you were to stage some live concerts for that age group. I think this is a missed opportunity in terms of musical outreach and would urge you to consider a series of concerts for pre-schoolers as your next venture. Thank you!
