Big Ears, Little Ears

Big Ears, Little Ears was a pilot series of concerts for parents and young babies taking place across central Scotland in September 2012, providing mums, dads and carers with the chance to share the experience of high quality live music with their infants in an informal atmosphere.

For more information about the project, read on. Or to find out how it went, follow this link to the 'Big Ears, Little Ears' blog post (scroll down the page of October's posts - it's near the bottom).

A short (approx. 45 minutes), informal concert of popular classics was specially created for adult and baby. The programme of music – performed live by the Orchestra – included well-known classics by Mendelssohn, Prokofiev and Beethoven as well as traditional Scottish folksongs and lullabies performed by popular Scottish mezzo soprano Karen Cargill.

It was a tut-free, baby-friendly zone, so no-one needed to worry about gurgling, laughing, crying or screaming. Adult and baby shared the enjoyment and pleasure of a fabulous live music experience.

Conductor Howard Moody says “It is very important to me and to everyone involved in Big Ears, Little Ears that the next generation enjoys the wonders of live orchestral music as much as we do.  No better time to start that process, so come along and relax into a real shared concert.  Music is for everyone! At last a professional orchestra isn't afraid to share their music making with possibly the most active listeners. Enjoy!"
