SCO Connect and The University of Edinburgh Open Studies Department have teamed up to provide two evening courses this Season, led by composer Jennifer Martin.
Both courses will guide you through music performed in the SCO Season and introduce you to the world of the SCO, with player visits, concert trips and an opportunity to meet Principal Conductor, Robin Ticciati.
Exploring Music II: This ten-session course is a more in-depth course ideal for those who have taken part in Exploring Music I, or already have some knowledge of music. It focuses on the works of Stravinsky and will include three concert trips to the series Stravinsky: The Chamber Ballets.

In February 2011, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra will be joined by a massed chorus of 300 voices of all ages from across the City of Edinburgh for a very special concert - The Voice of a City!
A choir of primary school children (Voice Academy), and an adult community choir will be performing Edward Harper’s affectionate portrait of Edinburgh, The Voice of a City, complete with the One o’Clock Gun, Sean Connery and Miss Jean Brodie!

Voice Academy is funded by Creative Scotland and is open to P6 and P7 pupils at City of Edinburgh Schools. 5 Academies meet across the city on Friday afternoons and work with teaching musicians developing vocal technique and repertoire. The sessions last for an hour and are about fun and working together.

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is presenting a family concert The Voice of a City at 3pm on Saturday 5th February.
This event is a day of free events at the Usher Hall for all the family to celebrate. Learn traditional Scottish songs, bring tiny ones to rhyme sessions and get the teenagers involved with a demonstration of how to set words to music.
Face painters and magicians will liven up the cafe and foyers all day too!
Scots Story and Song
Enjoy a taste of traditional Scots story and song for all ages, in these 30-minute sessions from storytellers Ewan McVicar and Stuart McHardy.

These 30-minute fun and lively activity sessions are for families with children from birth to 4. Come along to join in with songs, rhymes and a story.

Composition session: setting words to music
Come along to this interactive demonstration - for older teens and adults - delivered by music staff and students from Stevenson College Edinburgh. Bring a favourite contemporary poem you'd like to set to an original musical accompaniment - or just drop in and listen.

Try your hand at creating and playing music. These 30-minute workshops are open to children and parents of all ages, with no need for prior musical knowledge. The musicians from Drake Music Scotland will be on hand to help you discover your composing talents!
