Christopher George, the Orchestra's former leader, will conduct the Playfair Orchestra in a charity concert at Edinburgh’s Greyfriars Kirk on July 13th at 7.30pm.
The Playfair Orchestra – which will include a number of SCO players – performs what is possibly Beethoven's most energetically vivacious symphony, the Seventh, and will be joined by Amy Norrington for Haydn's beautiful C Major Cello Concerto.
Christopher is organising the concert in aid of the Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research at the University of Edinburgh – Euan MacDonald’s father is SCO Chairman Donald MacDonald.
Christopher commented; “Having left the SCO in 2010 with the neurological condition Focal Dystonia impeding my skill as a violinist, I turned to conducting about a year ago. I am absolutely delighted to be working with such a wonderful group of players on a great programme of music. Even better that it will fund-raise for the Euan MacDonald Centre which has close links with the SCO.
Tickets cost £10 each with all proceeds going to The Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research.
Tickets are available online or call 0131 650 9221.
