Roy Goodman, Principal Guest Conductor of both the English Chamber Orchestra and the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand, delivers a enthralling programme. Music by Mendelssohn, who played a key role in the 19th century rediscovery of Bach, frames works by Bach senior and junior. JS Bach wrote The Musical Offering in response to a challenge from Frederick the Great, at whose court his second son, Carl Philipp Emanuel, was employed as a court musician. SCO Principal Alison Mitchell takes the solo in CPE Bach’s dramatic Flute Concerto.
Roy Goodman: “…a red-hot conductor produces an electrifying performance”. The Herald
